My son and I collect coins, one of the easiest ways to tell a fake is by wrong weight, but you need a very accurate scale because coins will do do not weigh much - the difference of a few grams can be a big mistake. These scales report wildly different weights depending on where on the scale platform you place an item, and there is no one specific location that gives a consistently accurate weight. I contacted customer service through the manufacturer's website a few weeks ago and received no response. If accuracy is important, don't buy this scale.
