Review on Reliable Storage Solution: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRS 3 TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive by Mateusz Praga ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Quality of the product is at the level, I will recommend this product

I took a second-hand disk, I was lucky to it for 2.500, the average price for them is 3 and a little (which I also consider optimal for such a volume). I was looking specifically for a disk with a "mileage" of 8-12 thousand hours, because. with a small amount of operating time, there is a high chance of marriage (as can be seen from the reviews in this topic), with a "mileage" of about 20 thousand, it is already possible that the disk will begin to crumble from natural wear and tear (not a fact, but it is better to take a disk with an average "mileage") . I also want to say that there are 2 revisions of this model: with 3 plates / 6 heads and 4 plates / 8 heads. The first, as a rule, is quieter, colder and more reliable than the second, but in specific cases there may be exceptions. I was lucky to the first option (although I didn’t know when buying that there are 2 options, I just took the disk because of the good price and average operating time). As for the disk itself, it is rather cold for me (not higher than 40 at the minimum Arctic F12 fan speed, there is also a Samsung 850 Evo and WD Caviar SE WD3200AAJS 320Gb SSD in the basket above it, in idle and light work the temperature is about 35-38. Noise from the disk is not particularly audible, which cannot be said about the WD3200AAJS (humming). Heads are naturally audible when there is an active read / write. How the disk for file storage got on the old system (LGA1366) is excellent, GPT markup, the entire volume is also visible in the BIOS. More than 2 TB has not yet been written to it, but, in theory, there should be no problems. I turned off the head parking completely, for 9.5 thousand hours there were 86 thousand parking lots, they are useless to me, but the "extra" reliability will not hurt. As a result, I can say that you can take it, but I would only take a used one with an average operating time of about 8-12 thousand hours. You can do more, but I wouldn't do less.

Pros
  • - Inexpensive if you buy used - Best price/volume ratio - Quiet - Cold
Cons
  • - Difficulty installing as a system drive on older systems with BIOS (non-UEFI) - High marriage rate - Head parking set to park every 8 seconds
