It took me a few minutes to learn how to open it as the case is plastic and I didn't want to impose anything but it's easy once you do it Has. I installed my hard drive (the Macbook Pro's Toshiba drive), plugged it in and it worked. There's an LED on the box that blinks when the drive is working, and blinks slowly when you remove the drive to remind you it's still connected and drawing power - a nice feature for laptops. The (non-standard) USB cable has a non-USB connector on the end of the drive. On the computer side, it only needs one USB port for power and data, just like the bare hard drive. It's a nice lightweight plastic sleeve to protect the drive from dust and spills (although no one would. :) It's not a "durable" backpack travel case, it's not meant to be smashed and it is not advertised as such. I found this to be good value for my needs.
