As I already know what monoculars are (I have two others) this monocular lived up to my expectations. I wanted this because it is waterproof and anti-fog. This is a great choice if you need 8x magnification rather than higher. When hunting I like to be able to instantly zoom to a specific area and I've found that 8x helps me do this faster than 10x or 12x. This one is also brighter than my other monoculars. I have a drawer full of different optics and have found that $200 optics aren't ten times better than $20 optics. It can be 20% better - 30% better if it's really good and the cheap is really bad. On a quick glance I find this one gives me clarity and a field of view that gets the job done. If you're finding less than perfect clarity in the center of the field of view with a new monocular, my advice is to focus from + to - a few times. This often brings clarity. An ax cannot be compared to a chainsaw, and I would never say that a monocular can be completely equal to binoculars. But this item only weighs 3 ounces in its case. When I don't feel like carrying around a binox, I carry this.
