They have many advantages, first of all, they look thick and strong. And they really fit my tall and thin daughter. She's almost 9 years old and learning to slide, so she was re-experienced to find extra padding on the seat and knees. I got so tired of looking for pants that would fit around her waist but then oddly they would go down to her knees and pull over her socks because they were too short. This pair fits exactly as indicated in the size chart. My daughter's waist is 22 inches (on a heavy eating day lol) and the little one says 22-24 inches, it's still a bit big but not so ridiculous that her elastic waistband can't accommodate her . And they go a few inches below your knees so they don't end up in a weird spot when the elastic is gathered under your knees. We are so glad we found her!
