They are very difficult to place correctly so that they can work effectively. If it's too loose, unfiltered water will seep into the filtered water. If it is too narrow, the water will hardly be filtered (small drops, very slowly). I basically had to settle for a small leak of unfiltered water into filtered water to get a decent, steady flow of filtered water in a matter of minutes. We are big water drinkers and sometimes we need more water after we've used up the rest. I think a few minutes of filtering is perfectly appropriate. Ultimately, using less tap water and more filtered water is worth it for me to keep buying and using. I've spent a lot of time getting these "just" right and I've gone through quite a few of these filters (I think I'm on the seventh). In the end, I can consider the best option without leaks.
