Review on πŸ’ˆ Panasonic Arc5 Electric Shaver for Men, 5-Blade Cordless with Shave Sensor Technology, Wet/Dry Convenience - ES-LV65-S by Lynn Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Tight, aggressive razor; just not enough convenience

Panasonic ES-LV95-S is a 3.5 star electric shaver. My previous electric shaver was a Braun 760cc which I bought 8 years ago. I was mostly fine with that, but I wanted something newer and maybe "better". Well I'd say the ES-LV95 is a decent replacement, but it's not much better than my old Braun. Advantages: - Fits comfortably in the hand despite the large shaving head. - Quieter than brown. - Great shave. The head quickly tackles stubble on the cheeks, neck and along the jaw - Provides a close and aggressive shave in multiple passes. With my old Braun, I always get a closer shave than I've ever had. - Very close shave on neck, cheeks, along the jawline and sideburns/cut areas. - Faster motor + larger head for a slightly faster shave. Although you would expect it to be even faster due to the more powerful motor, 5 shaving heads, etc. Easy to hand clean with soap and water. You don't really need a cleaning base. Disadvantages: - A large head makes it difficult to shave the upper lip and sideburns. It may take some getting used to, but there is a learning curve. The aggressiveness of the shave takes some getting used to. Be sure to give your skin/face 21 to 30 days to get used to this shaver. If you expect instant satisfaction from this model and choose Braun like I did, you may be disappointed. Lack of comfort when shaving. Brown is way ahead of Penny in this area. The ES-LV95 and its 5 blades create a pull sensation I notice on my upper lip that I find amazing. I can still feel the aggressive pull on my upper lip hair with this razor even after 30 days. I was hoping this wouldn't happen or that after a few uses my face would get used to it, but it still does. The blades actually gave me a small cut on my upper lip the first time I used them and it has happened to me several times since. It's not a big deal, but for nearly $200, I was expecting a little more comfort. looks and feels cheap. And I can't say I'm a huge fan of the DIY approach Panasonic has taken here, where you mix liquid from detergent packs with water. I know I'm tired of storing Braun cleaning cartridges before use, so I appreciate the space savings that Panasonic cleaning packs offer. But I'm not sure if the detergent mix and cleaning process makes the shaver as clean as my old Braun system. Luckily, you don't really have to resort to detergent packs and cleaning base if you don't want to. I did not "wet shave" with the LV-95. From what I understand, Panny really shines here, but I'm not a big fan of wet shaving with an electric razor. I suppose if I'm going to wet my face, use cream etc it's better to use a real blade. I'll shave more closely this way, but I digress. As long as this unit is under $200 (preferably up to $175) I think this Panasonic is a reasonable price. It is better to buy the version without a cleaning base when it is significantly cheaper (starting at $30). When I made the purchase, the price difference between the two was less than $20. Because of that small difference, I would just take a cleansing base and use it once a week or so. Now if I had the opportunity to buy this shaver again I would probably just bite the bullet and buy one of the new Braun 9000 Series models. I miss Brown's convenience. If you want the best possible shave with an electric razor, you can't go wrong with the LV-95.
