The bracelet comes with an elastic band that can be slipped over the child's hand. My 17 month old doesn't have this --- I bought this necklace set but if your child can take it I held it on my arm for a hot second and it was cute. The necklace has a lobster clasp and stiff cord (thin metal I think?) that is very strong. My daughter is quite picky about accessories and this survived an all day wedding. This necklace has no safety measures so it is definitely a choking hazard and I would not recommend leaving a child unattended or in a car seat while wearing it. But perfect for a special occasion! The beads themselves are quite large compared to many other baby necklaces I have purchased.
