The new one opens cans normally, but makes an unpleasant rattling noise. Our original didn't make as much noise, but one of its long plastic handles broke off. I often try to fix and improve things that break, but in this case it didn't seem worth my time compared to buying a new one. My wife has arthritis which makes it difficult for her to take things with her. Hands, so a power can opener should not be missing in our kitchen.
