I went crazy thinking I could install my new kitchen cabinets myself. Counting 23, 23 total. I made some mistakes but overall I'm happy and they look good and I'm pretty sure they won't fall off the walls. Not soon. The pros say the best way is to align, weigh, and nail the closets together, then lift and hang them as a unit. This works well if you have crafty helpers or an electric cabinet lift. I didn't have either, so I hung them individually using a helper, a set of pony clips, and a t-jak. I first screwed the ledger to the wall, then lifted one cabinet at a time onto the ledger, then held it down with a T-Jak. The T-Jak is invaluable for aligning them in place and keeping them secure while you shake, fuss and align everything. I then attached the face frames with bangs clips and everything turned out perfect. Next, screw in the screws to attach the cabinets to the wall studs, and then finally screw in the screws into the face frame. I took off a star because the pony clamps have guides for the face frame guide holes, but they're a bit sloppy so you still have to carefully drill to get the right angle. Felt pads so they don't scratch your face frame, but they're heavy and the outside edges will scratch your shelves or any other surface you put them on if you carelessly drop them. Always hang wall cupboards first and then base cupboards. I've seen instructions showing how to hang wall cabinets after the bottom cabinets are in place and they are misleading because they don't show how it makes things a hundred times more difficult. Unless you're two meters tall and have four super strong monkey arms. Since it would cost about $2,000 to hire a professional to install my cabinets, it was well worth buying pony clamps and t-jaks. Then I sold it for 75% of what I paid for it. Even if I hadn't sold them, they've paid for themselves many times over.
