On the top, the scale is in inches, and each 1/8 inch is marked not only with a bar, but also with the corresponding size (e.g. 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, etc.). Also, every 1/16 of a second is marked with a hashmark AND a red #, like 1, 3, 5, etc. So getting an accurate measurement in inches (and their fractions) isn't difficult. There is a metric scale on the underside of the band. , millimeters and centimeters. That's why I bought this in the first place. And they are well labeled, easy to read and make this purchase very worthwhile. Finally, what I love the most is that thumb "brake" that should hold the band open so you can let go and jot down your notes or check the other side of the band or whatever. well, funny enough. IT WORKS OUT. I think this is my first tape measure (I'm 52 years old) that this perineum thing works. Don't doubt. This is a quality band.
