They arrived floating in light machine oil, which is good because they are machine steel (other than brass - more on that later) and they are lightweight magnetic and susceptible to corrosion . very easy. After cleaning them of oil and treating them with Birchwood Casey's Barricade* Rust Remover, I spot checked them with a few microns. All were performed with an accuracy of <0.0004 inches. However, almost all larger sizes had burrs on part of the threaded hole, as did the locking frame. These had to be removed. The locking bolt is just a nut and bolt with no retainer, but poking through the end of the bolt is enough to prevent the nut from falling off if you loosen it too much. You can also install a spring washer or tension washer if you like. I don't know what the .025" brass gauge is for in addition to the .025" steel gauge. I recommend removing it if you're not sure you need it. Dissimilar metals in contact promote corrosion. If the sensors were made of stainless steel, this would not be a problem. Bottom line, the sensors themselves are accurate and the price is low. * Ideal for metal that needs anti-corrosion protection without oil or grease. When used correctly, it leaves no residue.
