This vest is awesome and I love it. I'm much taller than the listed size, I'm wearing a top 18 and jeans 20, but the vest fits well. The shoulder bags don't protrude as far forward when fully chambered, but are still comfortable when properly adjusted. I'd recommend trying it with and without a full bladder (or something similar in size and weight) in the hydration sleeve and with a decent amount of weight in the main pocket before committing to it. The bag has many great pockets and even the ability to attach trekking poles. One of the chest pockets is large enough for a large phone, but its placement isn't ideal for me as the pocket sags on my chest and my phone obviously doesn't. The outside pocket for things is awesome and practical. I love the stretch mesh fabric they used. It attaches to the main bag, so you have to open it to get to the main load. There is an internal pocket at the top for electronics and other small items, which is handy as it keeps them up and away from the bladder in the event of a spill or leak. You can also access this pocket when the zippered storage pocket is closed. The back pockets are also large enough to accommodate a lot. There are also pockets on the sides to attach poles that I can access without removing my bag. The drinking bottle fits into its own back pocket. It's all brilliant. I'd rather have multiple pockets than more space so I love it. When I carry a backpack I usually carry two liter water bottles, one in each side pocket. This bag can't do that as it doesn't have proper side pockets and it's time consuming to put on and take off so carrying water bottles in the main pocket isn't ideal. This somewhat limits the versatility of the bag, as it's not designed for transitioning between a full-on trail run and a casual outing where carrying a hydration bladder might not make sense. As a result, I often have to move my things back and forth between the pockets. The drinking chamber isn't bad, but it does make the water taste unpleasant, like every other chamber I've used before. At first like a sore throat. It has a clasp that is difficult to open as the material melts into itself and you have to rip it apart. It can be difficult to keep your mouth open to fill it, especially if you have to fill it with a pitcher or glass because it won't fit under the faucet. It has good features and a convenient quick release connector, and the tube is very long so you can cut it to any length you want. I really like the bite valve because it's easy to use by hand, allowing me to spray water on my dog's tongue. I can solve all bladder problems except bad taste. I tried improving the flavor by using lemon, but that only worked until the lemon flavor went away. Since I share water with my dog, I still felt uncomfortable using lemon. I was recently at an outdoor sport store and discovered Platypus reservoirs so I'll try that next. I will be buying the Big Zip Evo model available from Revain. They are made of plastic film that does not alter the taste of the water. The hydration tube has a magnetic snap to attach it to the top sternum strap and works very well when left uncovered. Chest straps are very loose, even for taller people, so the end of the strap will almost always cover the magnet and the hose will not connect to the magnet unless you're holding the strap with your other hand. You can tuck the end inside, but it will fall out if you move. I'm amazed by this because the bag is so well designed in every other way. The end of the strap is also hidden behind the chest strap on the model in the photos. He must have a keeper. By the way, the magnetic clip is removable and interchangeable, so you can remove it from the top strap and put it on the bottom strap, or leave it on if you prefer. Or you could even move it to another bag. Pretty cool! All Osprey vests I've seen use a plastic snap to open, close, and adjust the height of the chest straps. To attach, snap the plastic clip onto the plastic rail and to remove, pull the clip's small webbing strap. It is easy to adjust whether you wear or hold the vest. I've never seen anything like this on other vests or bags. It keeps the strap from moving and is a lot easier to use than the types my CamelBaks use when you need to close a thin thread (look in the mirror). I wonder about the durability of these bags but Osprey guarantees their bags so hopefully they will fix any issues. As for me, I can't carry a bag on my shoulders without fastening my chest straps. Just a note in case this poses a problem for your intended use. There is no handle, just a small loop through which you can thread a coat hook. I miss that grip, especially when I'm walking from the woods to the dog park and don't want to put my bag on the ground while I'm playing with my dog. This is such a beautiful bag, I don't want everything to be disgusting. I hope they add a grip to next year's model. Of course, judging by the photos, I wouldn't choose any of the women's colors this year, but I really like this bag live. The shimmering turquoise and coral tones are fun and summery and probably livelier than what I usually prefer, which is a good thing. The black accents and logo are discrete reflective areas and are illuminated very well when you shine a flashlight on them. Overall this bag is amazing. I can't say enough good things about it. Beautiful and functional, well thought out and comfortable.
