LED trim strip fails over time

I have had this mouse pad for over a year and I can say the finish is compliant and I have had no issue with the finish material but the issue is related together to the LED trim. It's been getting darker and darker as the year has gone on, and now the light is only a few inches around the edge. I don't think the light is to blame, it's the quality of the fiber optic material running around. It seems to lose its fiber optic properties over time, rendering the lighting meaningless after a while. I've attached a photo I took a year ago and a photo I took today to show this. It should also be noted that the fiberglass trim is actually sewn on with thin fishing line that can be a little scratchy. on your wrists if you don't have a wrist rest. I've also attached a larger image of this line. It's a nice mouse pad, but you might consider LED lighting as a short-term novelty rather than a long-term LED fix. I hit it hard with a 2 star rating because the LED lighting is one of the main selling points, but it doesn't hold up.
