Pertronix 1281 igniter blew out the moment I turned the key in the ignition. I double checked my work when I installed it and the instructions were pretty basic. I sent the igniter back to Pertronix and they refused to honor the warranty because I installed it incorrectly or left the ignition key on for too long. Neither happened. They said I needed to get an RMA number from them before I sent them the detonator, but nowhere in the product instructions that came with the detonator does it say that. A representative from their warranty department left me the three sentences in the "Limited Warranty" section ' of their manual. He then told me I was right as nowhere in the document was it mentioned that an RMA number was required. I was offered to sell another detonator for $62, but I declined. They then asked me if I wanted to return the burnt detonator. I towed my car to the body shop and the shop got another Pertronix igniter from NAPA and installed it. I went to the body shop and asked them to remove the distributor cap and I saw that they put in a new Pertronix igniter, just like me. The detonator only has two wires, one red and one black, so it's a very simple setup. I am very disappointed that a company that has sold about 3 million detonators is not honoring their product warranty. Sad.
