It's ironwood, but it can't be used for a knife handle.
Ironwood scales. However, the scales are cut transversely, which is not correct to show any grain other than the tiniest top and bottom of the knife handle. It also makes the grains on the sides of the scales look like straight lines. With this direction of the fibers, the scales split easily. I wouldn't use them on a knife handle. Not very happy.
