I bought this black light to find the horn worms on my tomatoes. I had no problem putting the battery in as one reviewer described. maybe he got a defective one).I didn’t want to buy the beast because the battery’s have been recalled (or not sold anymore. because no "protection” circuitry so they can catch fire. Probably when shorted out. but it was unclear).If you like the beam, it probably depends what you use it for. The beam is a somewhat dim wide beam, with a bright spot in the middle. I’m not sure if the spotlight beam is optimal for finding horn worms (I wish the whole thing were the same brightness, and adjustable). It’s hard to describe but it feels like I cannot focus my eyes everywhere like a regular flashlight; and have to look at the bright spot, or the dim area. Maybe I just need to get used to it (maybe they’re all this way, I don’t know).
