If you suck liquid out of the tank through the hose, everything is fine. But I've used it to swallow excess water in my houseplants' saucers. The problem was that I had to hold the suction hose with one hand, operate the pump itself with one hand, and operate the plunger with one hand. (I was able to leave the drain hose standing long enough so that it didn't jump out of the bucket I was collecting excess water in.) So unless you have a second person (or three hands), you'll find yourself holding the pump. Knees or elbows while trying to control the plunger and keep the suction hose in the liquid you are trying to pump and hope the outlet hose doesn't pop out of the outlet reservoir. I ended up throwing this one away and buying a rechargeable one from Harbor Freight.
