I was so excited to have some hot glue fun with this item, but this time my good intentions backfired! What a waste of money. This article is TERRIBLE! It melts the glue but you have to put a piece of felt or cardboard underneath as something awful comes out and it really is a mess. Do not use this item around loved ones, furniture, etc. I have purchased two and have had the same result with both. I'd rather control the amount with a mini glue gun than use it on parts. When using paints, glitter, etc., the excess will pool in the gun's nozzle reservoir, and when you pull the trigger, they will overflow if they linger for even a few seconds. I would say it's best for continuous use. Putting something together is a nightmare and the result looks terrible because you have to rush to keep up with the glue flow. My minis are $5 each and work MUCH better on demand. They don't make a big mess when idling for a few minutes and don't overheat. I feel safe allowing my 8 year old to use the mini glue gun under full supervision. Not so with this pistol. This is a disaster that is about to happen. I'll admit one unintended benefit of this gun: if you unplug it after about 10 minutes of full warm-up time, you'll have about 10-15 minutes of battery life, even adding new sticks. They stay REALLY REALLY HOT. However, that little plus doesn't do me any good as it's such a mess I can't relax while they're on because they get so damn hot. I was planning on using them for my daughter's First Communion banners and gave up on them completely after Banner 2. I wish I had received a product that everyone appreciates so well. I wonder if some of the five-star reviewers tried the $5 mini gun (like the one available on Amazon Prime in just a few hours!). I have four of these and a mini from Martha Stewart that allows you to choose the temperature. and NO leaks during installation. No dripping for a long period of time (20-30 minutes). I'm a pretty laid back parent with things like curling irons, glue guns and ovens because if my kid knows something is hot they stay away. However, I wouldn't let this crazy thing around my child or anyone under 25 unless they have serious craft experience. Definitely wouldn't use that around a man. This would be a real nightmare for guys who tend to be a bit obsessed with their tools, at least the guys I know are pretty picky when it comes to tools. Someone, like my father or my husband, would totally disapprove, call it "junk" and immediately ask how much money I wasted on this "junk". But what they don't know won't hurt them I guess. I don't have to worry about them using hot glue. I can't imagine leaving a small child near this thing unsupervised. And since I always have children, this is very impractical. To be honest, I hate this topic. I'm trying to be positive, but it's really useless if you don't like wasting glue and endangering others and yourself. I'll give this one Big Five. Poorly. There is a better and less expensive way. I wish I had read the reviews more carefully.
