I've been wearing Birkenstocks for over 35 years - sandals, shoes and clogs - although most people have never heard of them. I started wearing them for comfort as nothing else has ever fitted me so well. Some styles don't fit my feet as well as others - the Zurich style sandals have a strap buckle that goes all the way to the tips of the toes and soothes the sore spot. I really liked some styles, for example Arizona and Milano. Boston is one of the styles that I really liked from the start. Unassuming, chunky and lacking in style, it's incredibly comfortable and practical. Like all traditional Birkenstock shoes, these shoes have leather-covered cork insoles and need to be broken in for maximum comfort. After a few days of wear, the hard insole begins to soften a bit and conforms to your foot while providing excellent support. One thing I've noticed about Birkenstock clogs and shoes is that it's usually best to order a size up when you're wearing Birkenstock sandals. I believe that you will then find it easier to wear socks with clogs and use them as regular shoes. With sandals, you can always loosen the straps to wear socks, but the closed nature of the clog limits this practice. Also, for some reason, my feet sweat more in clogs, so I prefer to wear socks except when I'm just hanging around the house. Like all Birkenstocks, Bostons wear well. The cork should be resealed periodically with Cork Life or Kelly's Cork Renew. If the cork is damaged but still in good condition, Cork Life or Cork Renew can be used to fill the damaged area. If the sole comes off, Barge Cement will repair it perfectly. The same applies to the suede insole. If you don't want to do the work yourself, look online for places that specialize in Birkenstock repairs and repairs. This is possibly the best option for clogs, as the closed nature of the shoe means some parts are inaccessible without complete disassembly. Basically all you know is that Birkenstocks can be repaired and can last a very long time with care and maintenance. I have a pair of sneakers from the early 80's that still wear well. I bought into Birkenstock. I have recommended them to many people and those who have tried them have never said they were disappointed. Prices have increased significantly over the years but quality remains excellent.
