Product consists primarily of chlorine. You add a little to the water and it prevents algae growth. Gives the water a slight chlorine taste. Even though the bottle is full of rubbish. After two uses it didn't hold up anymore. Of course, I didn't know about it until I went to retrieve it a third time and it all leaked into the storage compartment. Starsan are available in bottles that allow you to measure a specific amount before pouring. Hell, they could have just given you the proportions in all caps instead of ounces. I don't want to lug around a measuring cup or just guess.
