Like almost everyone else, I look for a bargain when I can. I wouldn't call this player a bargain. This is sufficient in most cases. But if you want something better, you pay 4 times more, if not more. I knew it had cheap transport (only 3 buttons, no rewind), but a pleasant surprise was the auto-off type: turns off when the take-up spool stops moving, which is preferable to the type used by depends on the tape tension - the latter usually doesn't turn off when the player starts to "eat" the tape, leading to massive entanglements, but shuts down in this case. The RCA player should stop working at the first sign of a problem to minimize damage to the tape. (And all tape recorders have some kind of jam sooner or later, so this is worth considering.) In normal operation, the vehicle does not have much power, which leads to speed instability at the slightest braking of the cassette. And every movement of the player causes speed fluctuations. The player can also set the record for the slowest fast forward of all time. In quiet parts of the recording, engine noise can be heard in the audio. This shouldn't have happened, but they probably saved a penny by not putting a filter capacitor in the motor. In short, I call it reasonable because I didn't want to spend 4 times as much. But there is nothing to brag about.
