I installed them for my mother. She has fallen several times and cannot scream very loudly. Now she uses it when she needs help (or when she falls) and I'm not in the room. This saved her from falling several times and warned me before it happened. The volume controls are adjustable and can be very loud or very quiet. Many siren options are available, from very annoying (will wake you up quickly!) to very musical. I set it to siren sounds so it definitely wakes me up. The light is also a great feature when you have the volume turned down and you are in a noisy environment. One feature I couldn't figure out was that when the batteries are low and the system is on, the light doesn't turn off on reset. This will let you know when the batteries need to be replaced. I threw away the instructions so I couldn't find them. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs such a system.
