I have an old PSU and while it provides enough power, it doesn't have a separate PCI-E slot for my GPU. I have used a Molex to PCI-E 6 pin adapter in the past but the cable failed and in fact one of the wires in the connector melted. This could potentially start a fire, my fault! This connector uses 18AWG wires and is powered by two Molex connectors instead of one, so you're splitting the power consumption across two wires instead of one. The wires only get slightly warm to the touch under heavy loads. Whatever you do, use 18 AWG wire and a Y-connector if you need to molex your GPU!
