Marble dust gets into the food
A good, durable mortar and pestle, also grinds very small spices well. (I've used it to grind poppy seeds and it did the job well.) Grinding, however, causes the inside of the food to crumble. I don't know about the safety/toxicity of the dust and won't be using it again.
