I got what I paid for. It works as expected. The two USB charging ports were quite handy in addition to the American socket. I was able to turn on my laptop and charge two smartphones at the same time. And since my laptop also had a USB charging port, I was able to charge my camera too. Now that I'm back in the States, the adapter is useless. This would be an additional feature if the Australian/New Zealand fixed vanes were not "fixed". If they were "swivelable" I could still use the adapter for its USB charging ports even in the US. "Direct" grounding must be universal (or removable). Another thought was that the extension cords I encountered in New Zealand had recessed round sockets and this adapter, with its square shape, didn't fit.
