Soft and soft. I bought it for my aging cat BoBo. Because of Bo's incontinence, I washed this bed every week. My only criticism is that the surface fabric clumped, resulting in a reduction in softness, but the plush remained. It was perfect for Bo; I bought one for my dad's aging cat Teddy - it's just comfortable for aging bones. I would like to find one in my size.
