I know the description says 80mm max but I tried it with a 100mm ball and the thing was so unreliable that I doubt I'd be able to do it with an 80mm ball would feel good. Of course, the smaller the ball, the more reliable it is. The ball is easily released by tipping the ball sideways enough to break the suction. The suction cup is not strong enough to prevent the ball from moving from side to side. Mine is actually curved, so whatever you put on it will lean right in, right out of the box. By the way, the 80mm sphere is about the size of a tennis ball, but in some of the pictures on the product page, the crystal ball looks weirdly big. The sucker is just that. The rest of the product is a universal telescopic stand. The screw at the top where the attachments attach is a standard screw mount. As they suggest it can be used for different purposes and this is probably the best use for this product which is well made. It's sturdy and the plastic parts are so solid you won't think they'll break if you overtighten them. Sphere, that might work.
