With 5 kittens, 4 of them 1 year old, once they realized they could jump that high, it was a challenge to teach them to stay away from tables and counters. I use different methods but the jet bottle has been the most effective so far but doesn't always work in the long run as I have to squirt it over and over to get down. Instead of using duct tape for furniture on the dining table, I chose them for training. (Foil doesn't work on my cats, they chew on it and play with it) We don't eat at the dining table very often, but when we do or when I want to cover it with nice china for a day or so for Christmas and crystal, I don't want any there Cats, so I wanted to teach them to stay away from that first. Luckily they don't end up on the shelves often, especially since I added a tall scratching post to the kitchen...while they work in the dining room. I'll have to keep an eye on trying to get in there as the two like to nap on the table to get the video. Kitty #5 is 18 years old and has learned to stay away from tables. He loves them because blankets annoy other kittens, especially the one that annoys him the most. He is entertained by karmic fun when they tease the little ones.
