Review on πŸ”Œ Proxxon Thermocut 37080 Wire Cutter by Christian Young

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good for what it can do, but limited in use.

Not a bad product. It's easy to set up and works exactly as promised. The three stars are to mark this rating for people who might think it would work for something other than the small hobby items it seems suited to. It cuts through foam really well. It heats up immediately. But it also means it will cut your foam as smooth as you can run it through the wire. If you have an unsteady hand or just stop for a moment, you'll be left with jagged edges that need to be sanded down when working with large chunks of foam, which can take quite a while. While it cut through the foam beautifully, it left so much work behind that using precision knives and saws proved to be the best choice in the long run. More cutting, but a lot less grinding. It's also not intended for people who actually use large chunks of styrofoam. It just can't cut large pieces of styrofoam at a 45 degree angle. So if you're looking at this as a way to speed up the production of Halloween tombstones or other large styrofoam items, it probably won't work. I've actually had better luck with my hand knives, knives and blades made out of styrofoam.

Pros
  • 360Β° Fahrenheit cutting wire temperature for a clean cut
Cons
  • Some bugs
