I bought the case for disaster recovery procedures, not for everyday use with a backup drive. It serves my purposes very well: it only takes a few seconds to insert a disc into the case and the disc is immediately readable on a PC. I had no problems reading, writing and switching between multiple drives. The hard drive does get a little warm in use and some people have complained about this, but that's not a specific issue for this particular case - any similarly designed case will have the same problem. If, like me, you'll be using the case occasionally - to salvage data from an old computer, etc. - then this isn't a big problem: you can just use the case without the cover. If you intend to use it frequently as an external backup drive, another option is to drill some holes in the plastic case to improve airflow.
