I ordered by weight and my kitty, who is slightly heavier, had to fit in the large. It fit, but was a little baggy and she got caught by her hind legs a couple of times. I decided to try the remedy on her and it worked. It was a little tighter than average on her sister but the material is really stretchy so it worked a lot better than the big one and she felt a lot more comfortable. I'll make it clear in a moment that the material does stretch, but it doesn't stretch and doesn't bag. One thing I recommend is before you put the outfit on your pet, tighten and cut the collars, then immediately tie the ends together (they will fray if you don't). What the lace looks like when you get it is basically a bow. I was afraid my kittens would get caught in the sling and choke them so I cut it. I could still stretch the string, it just didn't have a loop at the end to hold on to. When I picked up the kittens from the vet, they put cones on them. They were already in their cages so I didn't see them, but when we got home and pulled them out of their cages I wasn't thrilled. Both of my kittens were pretty small so I assumed the $10 cone would be small. I was really surprised how big, bulky and heavy it was. None of them could walk with a cone. And the vet wanted them to have bumps for two weeks. To the right. So the cones are gone. Of course they both started licking their incisions (they were neutered) so I had to cover their incisions. I ended up cutting out some fabric to wrap them around, but it wasn't perfect. Luckily I was able to get these outfits in 2 days. Seriously, do yourself and your pet a favor and skip the cone. My kittens didn't like the outfits because they are crazy kittens who like to run around which they shouldn't do after surgery. With the help of clothing, they remained calm and still, but at the same time could walk and access food, water, and a tray.
