This lock itself will stop the rear wheels from spinning and prevent someone from quickly jumping on your bike and pedaling. This lock doesn't matter if the thief takes your bike and leaves or throws it in the back of a pickup truck and drives away. This lock is for when you are within sight of your bike, e.g. B. when you rush to a supermarket for water, or when you're sitting on the sidewalk in a cafe with your bike in sight. So many bikes get stolen because someone jumped on them and drove off faster than you could get out of the store and catch them. This is the sole purpose of this castle. It's convenient because it's permanently attached to your bike. You never have to remember to lock (just make sure you bring the key!). It's also convenient because you don't need to attach it to a pole or rack. If you leave your bike out of sight, you can also buy an extra chain. The chain wraps around a luggage rack or bike rack and inserts into this Abus 4960 lock so no one can pick it up and walk away with it. And if they break the chain with a grinder, they'll be stopped by locking the 4960's rear wheel. You have to pick TWO locks to steal your bike and pedals. I personally can highly recommend this lock with optional chain. I also use an Abus Granit U-Lock for added bike security. Using a separate U-lock in addition to this system is highly recommended if you need to secure an expensive bike. Installation: Most European bikes have mounting holes for this type of frame lock, but most US bikes do not. This lock comes with no installation hardware. Sometimes you have to get creative. They make extra mounts that fit most bikes but have to be ordered separately. Personally, I use some strong zip ties to attach it to my bike's rear triangle. Cutting the zip ties does not affect security when the device is locked (because it locks around your rear wheel).
