I have tried different thermometers and had problems because they were inaccurate. I needed a good candy thermometer and was impressed by the reviews. The coating for my caramelized corn came out perfectly. I found the calibration easy. When I made my caramels I had a problem - the clip didn't hold up and it all got mixed up. I rinsed it off, put it back in the pan and secured it with a clothespin. My caramels were amazing. If you spend time making candy, the calibration is worth the extra minute. As for the clip, now I know how to use a clothespin. I have found that the thermometer still works after being submerged in water which is why I am giving this product 5 stars despite the issue. I suggest before you make your first batch of candy, attach a clip to the pan and experiment with thermometer placement to find the best way to avoid the problem I'm having.
