I have one under the kitchen sink, at the dishwasher water inlet (it's the first place the dishwasher leaks), under the refrigerator (only needed if you have an ice maker or cold water dispenser). I put them in the bathroom next to the bathtub, near the toilet and under the sink(s) anywhere water can spill. There are several similar ones, but none of them are inexpensive: one type only works once and cannot be checked manually, others have other limitations. The fuzz buzz sensors are just above the ground; You can test it anytime, just lick the sensor contacts and you'll hear it inform you of the load and how much longer the battery life is. This is a good way to let other family members know to check for a leak when they hear this noise. The batteries are built in and the fuzz buzz needs to be replaced every 2 or 3 years. Each thread is marked with a replacement date, but typically lasts 6 to 12 months longer. I BUY THEM FOR THE PAIR OF CONDOS WE RENT AND EXPLAIN TO THE RENTER WHY THEY ARE GOING.
