With my first daughter I didn't think there was a need to change pads. Um, I don't know why, but I added this to my kids list at number two, and I'm so glad. It also dropped to $5 so I bought a second one. I used a four-sided summer baby pillow for both (I have two). Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-4-Sided-Changing-Pad/dp/B001MS83OE?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage) and it was great for a 2 year old and newborn. With the first, we washed it in the shower every time it leaked, which was a lot. Our first has a few stains, although we always rinsed it out and rubbed it with soap straight away. This cover is very soft and if the baby's diaper leaks when changing it, we can remove it and wash it immediately, there are no stains on the liner. With a 4-sided overlay, it's a little raised, but it fits well. I would highly recommend this to all parents!
