I was a bit nervous about the installation after reading some of the reviews. I am a new first time homeowner and only recently learned how to use a drill press. To say I have no experience with household crafts is an understatement. However, I found the instructions in the pictures to be pretty clear. If you've ever installed anything with a drill, it's very easy. The instructions don't say what size drill bit to use, but I looked at the pictures here and someone recommended an 11/64 drill bit. It worked for me too, so I recommend it. I installed it myself because I didn't want to wait for my fiancΓ© to come back to town to help. There are several important points to consider when installing these shelves -1. Take your time with step 2 (screwing the wall mount and cup holder to the crossbar). Make sure everything is level and straight.2. Leveling (Step 3) is very important. When I installed the first one I straightened the rod only to find the rod was uneven and my glass was completely out of order. Doug! Luckily I had other screws/dowels that I bought back from HD a bit because I used up the dowel completely here. By screwing one end into the wall I was able to insert the glass into the mount and align from there. So I leveled my glass but it doesn't look straight because the board isn't level (see step 1). I think I can fix this by unplugging it from the wall, but that's starting to bother me less (Figure 3). Lesson learned - for the second I placed it where I wanted, marked the hole for the first. Anchor and attached the left side to the wall. Then I was able to align the right side more easily. I highly recommend doing this if you're installing this yourself, and not even that as I don't recommend aligning it on a bent pole! 3. The small screws are already disassembled, you won't find them in the package with longer screws and anchors.4. Useful tools include more than what's listed in the instructions: a drill, hammer, Phillips screwdriver, pencil, flathead screwdriver, spirit level, and some Windex to clean the glass before attaching it. We really hope they hold up! They're in my powder room, so hopefully the guests will be kind. One mounts to the wall with the included screws/anchors, the other with large HD anchors/drywall screws.
