I'm not a big fan of vacuum cleaners like some reviewers seem to be. My first experience with a vacuum cleaner was in the 1960's growing up in an upstanding Hoover family. It was durable and stayed with me until the 1980's when I eventually replaced it with a Kenmore canister machine. The Kenmore lasted almost 10 years and was replaced by a highly acclaimed bagless vertical machine which proved short lived and was replaced by another Kenmore vertical bagged machine which lasted almost twenty years. Today I used the BISSELL 2999 on arrival. It was easy to set up and a real pleasure to use. Not as loud as any vacuum in my personal history, but at least with the same suction power for dust and dirt off carpets, off hardwood floors, and around the wood stove alcove. The family room, carpets in the living room, hardwood floors in the kitchen and hallway were cleaned of the accumulated dirt with ease, which was evident upon examining the spacious canister. Clearing out all of those areas filled maybe a quarter of the canister - definitely big enough to clear the dirt out of the remaining four bedrooms as well, if I was that keen on finishing those spaces. Of course, emptying the canister was as easy as pressing a button to take the can out of the car and pressing another to dump its contents in the bin. I should also note that this machine is much easier to get up and down stairs than the machine it replaced. Both my wife and I are very happy with this purchase. I'm happy with the product and she's happy that I'm spending my retirement doing chores.
