As many have said before me, this Carhartt hat is a bit tight. When I first got it it was like a hard head clench and I almost gave it away (I have epilepsy and the head clenching was too much for me to handle with a fist). I figured if I wear it and wash it a few times it will loosen up a bit and that's all it takes is regular wear. I would recommend wearing the hat both ways, ie turning it upside down so it stretches evenly to fit your head. In addition, the hat is very warm as we are currently freezing at around 10*F with no wind chill factor and it keeps my head and ears warm. When the wind picks up I can barely feel anything on my ears and head so it insulates pretty well.
