The Treaslin Video Capture Recorder is a quality device that looks as good as it works. Roughly the size of a cell phone (slightly smaller than my LG G7 ThinQ), the Capture Recorder exudes a form and finish not typically found in such devices. It looks pretty stylish with a red aluminum frame and black plastic top and bottom. There is an HDMI input and output, a USB 2.0/3.0 port, a microphone input and a headphone jack. A single illuminated "button" is located on the top of the recorder to control the recording resolution (720P/1080P) and activate the "Record"/"Stop" functions. The recorder is also supplied with a power adapter (12V) and an HDMI cable. Plug and cord about 2 feet; HDMI cable about 3 feet. Judging by the specs, the device supports an aspect ratio of 4:3. Whatever you put in is what you get out; the recorder will not force everything into 16:9 format. Recording permissions are listed above; the LED will illuminate to indicate which is active. A light press on the button changes the resolution, and a long press toggles "Record" or "Stop". A nice feature is that the device buzzes when you switch to "Record" or "Stop". During recording, there is a thin white LED line that lights up and "whistle"; the illumination of the line moves continuously from the input end to the output end of the recorder. Pretty clever. This recorder is *not for streaming*; It is a standalone recorder. You don't need a computer to record with it. The connections are HDMI input and output. The device acts as an HDMI pass-through, with the ability to record anything that goes through (via a flash drive or external hard drive). The input signal is not digitized; If you are starting with an analog signal (Composite, S-Video, Component), you will need to select the appropriate HDMI converter based on your analog input. Treaslin works as well as it looks. I use this device to digitize my VHS tapes and it works great. ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The transducer has selectable outputs in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio. I use this converter to digitize, add audio and format an HDMI signal for a Treaslin recorder.) The recorder comes with a SanDisc drive. A 32GB flash drive is NTFS formatted. The flash drive contains the installation software along with instructions in .pdf format. and some other useful files. The instructions place great emphasis on inserting and removing the flash drive; It is NTSF formatted and not hot-swappable like a FAT32 formatted drive. First insert the flash drive and then turn on the recorder. You unplug the recorder *before* you remove the flash drive; You can corrupt the newly created file if you don't follow the procedures. The recorder supports both FAT32 and NTFS formatted storage devices; maximum 64 GB for flash drives and 2 TB for external hard drives. The ability to use NTFS means you are not limited to a maximum file size of 2GB in FAT32 format. When recording a long session using FAT32, you end up with several 2GB files that need to be concatenated with a video editor for continuous playback. When using NTFS, the device writes continuously; ideal for recording VHS movies. I have a Mac Mini and although NTFS is Microsoft's proprietary file system, Macs can read NTFS files but not write to them. The Treaslin recorder creates an MP4 video file (using H.264 codec I believe). MP4 is a universally readable file, just like JPEG files, so it works on both PC and Mac. You can import the file into programs like OBS, open source video streaming software and any video editing software. All in all, this is a nice DVR. The build quality is good, works as it should.
