Firstly, it's well made, very durable (I've had mine on a table saw for over a year and a half and it shows no visible signs of wear) and very easy to read . If this is your only shop rule, or you have a few of these (and possibly other Fastcap gauges) then it's fine and you'll love it! , Empire and a few different marking calibers. All of these products are precisely matched to each other. However, at a span of 12 inches, the FastCap band is about 3/32 inch shorter than my other gauges. In other words, if my ruler says the fence is 12 inches away, the FastCap tape says I'm only 11 29/32 inches away. For anything under 6 inches I can rely on a tape measure, but anything larger I have to measure, which defeats the purpose of that tape measure. I really like this product but unfortunately I will be switching to Starrett once they become available.
