These speaker stands are more expensive than they should be. They are made of soft plastic that feels cheap. It's entirely possible that the building materials for these speakers are custom designed and AudioEngine designed them to perfectly enhance the sound of their desktop speakers. I'm not an audio engineer so I'm not sure. If you can prop up your AudioEngine A2s to avoid lifting and tilting them, do so. Use some books, blocks of wood, whatever you have. If you're not very diligent, then you're doing a good job. I owned the speakers for about 3 months before deciding to buy these stands and the sound was very good. I had never owned a pair of these desktop speakers before, so switching from a set of Logitech midrange speakers to these was a revelation for my PC and vinyl. However, these speakers are designed to be listened to this way. By simply tilting and raising the speakers, there is a noticeable improvement in bass and overall sound detail. Either build it yourself and save money, or buy it.
