I've read negative reviews about a toxic chemical smell that won't go away. That almost stopped me from buying it. I'm so glad I didn't let some people's bad experiences stop me from enjoying it. YES, the smell is intense on first use, but follow the very simple test run instructions and it will burn and disappear. This is the purpose of the test run. It took me 2 times to use it to stop noticing it so it's not a problem. Some reviews complained about the door shaking which made me uneasy reading the b4 I bought. Well, it shall be! The door is removed for washing. This does not affect the functionality of the locking mechanism in any way. Closes neatly and securely. I toasted the bread and it's true that the top gets toasted, but the bottom isn't as brown unless you turn it over. I didn't mind that the bottom wasn't quite the same as the top, I'll take care of that because I won't be turning my bread and it does the job for me. I've also read reviews of skewers being difficult to insert. I didn't have that experience. It was very easy, at least for the Vortex pro. It slid right in and snapped into place when the red tab was pressed, no problem at all. I also read about a broken glass door. I can't understand how this can happen unless the person holding it had handled it carelessly and caused it to collapse? Oh my god and when I think about it I almost didn't buy this. I've made amazing kebabs, beef jerky, biscuits, salmon, and potato chips. all on the same day as a small test of what this machine is capable of. The possibilities are endless and I can't wait to continue. Negative reviews were refuted in a day.
