So, a few things. I have a 2018 Tundra wired to drive the dash speakers from the head unit and the other speakers from a factory "amplifier" under the seat. First, I replaced the speakers in the front doors with two-way Kappa components and those in the rear doors with reference infinity coaxial cables. All are driven by a 4-band amplifier rated at 75W RMS per channel. I turned off the speakers in the dashboard. This gave a great sound but seemed a bit lacking in the mids, mainly vocals and some instruments. I installed them in a dash that goes directly (via an adaptor) to a Kenwood DMX907s head unit at 22 RMS. They sounded loud but harsh and a bit muddy on some songs even with the right EQ. I removed them for a few weeks but the gap bothered me. I figured the best way to get it working would be to hook it up to a 2-way crossover (as it should), then run a new speaker wire to the dash and see if more power solves the problem . It's absolutely true. Of course I had to turn the mid levels down because they are pretty loud, but once I set the EQ levels it sounds SO nice. I can hear Kendrick Lamar or Dave Matthews and it looks like they are in my panel. Tool or Lamb of God guitars sound like I'm standing in front of a stage. They really sound fantastic with any kind of music. Driven from 6.5 they add a decent level of bass but I'm looking forward to installing a JL Audio 10 inch subwoofer. I think it will really round it out.
