I had a Netgear 600 with two channels (I think that's the number) which couldn't compete with all the devices and streams that come with teenagers. I hooked up the new router to my modem and called my cable company to let them know I changed routers and allow the modem to connect. Easy setting. I used a Netgear Genie on my desktop that's hard-wired to my router and I used the Nighthawk app on my phone. As far as I know it has been refurbished but I had to change the admin password to access some Netgear Genie features. My guess is that the repair did not reset the password. I followed the instructions that came with the router to reset the password. It wasn't difficult, but an extra step. My old desktop is much faster on the web. This is an old computer, the limit is the processing speed, not the router. Advertised emails now load almost instantly, and Windows updates are much faster. Three channels allow you to separate traffic. I have newer devices on AC 5G. Other stuff on regular 5G and old stuff on 2.4G. Especially on mobile phones, I didn't notice any lag when browsing apps like Facebook. Everything else is much faster too, with speeds up to 800Mbps. I've been using it for a few days and so far I'm happy. I'll update if it doesn't continue to do its job. I like it so far.
