I don't understand why nobody makes 12V LED light strings, but as of 2020, you have no choice to make your own. These bulbs are almost perfect for that role.I am using them for a camper/off-grid application, where I've always wanted a string of "bistro" style lights to hang over my camp area. The idea is to have numerous dim light bulbs that cast warm light in all directions and establish a pleasant atmosphere, as opposed to having harsh floodlights that cast shadows and ruin my night vision. But nobody makes 12V LED bistro light strings today. Sure, there are incandescent options, but they are wildly inefficient, and there is no excuse to waste so much power on lighting in the 21st century. You can also readily buy 120VAC LED bistro light strings, but running an inverter to power LEDs is wasteful of power, causes unpleasant flickering, introduces unnecessary risk of shock, and most of all, is fundamentally stupid because LEDs themselves are low voltage DC devices. So, to make your own 12V LED bistro light string, you will want these bulbs, a spool of SPT cord, a set of E12 sockets for SPT cord, and whatever connectors you choose for making connections to your power source. If you are going to be handling the lights frequently, e.g., each time you make or break camp, then you might want to protect each bulb with some clear heat shrink tubing, because they are made from thin glass just like old fashioned light bulbs. FYI the bulb OD is 0.875 inches. The bulbs look great, and glow with a pleasant warm-white color. I measured a current draw of 35-40 mA per bulb @ 12V, and 45-50 mA @ 14 V.The only way these could be better for my application is if the bulb envelope were made from an impact resistant plastic (e.g. polycarbonate) instead of glass.
