Like any other 34mm Expresscard USB3 adapter, this adapter works about half the time. Points for an extra power connector, but I'm using a huge power hub anyway, so this isn't necessary. This unit seems a little more powerful or a lot more powerful than all the many cheaper options I've used, but it's no more reliable. I think it's a bit faster than any other brand I've tried (when it works), but I'm not 100% sure. Thing is, this thing only works occasionally and pops out slightly like every other similar product, but at least it allows users without powered hubs to spin up drives that draw a bit more power (when it works). The power cord can be plugged into the laptop's USB bus, perhaps for an extra half amp, or to a separate USB power supply that could potentially provide a few extra amps (unless it's limited by the card's circuitry, but I do not know). the). Maybe it's time to retire with the old tried and tested ThinkPad T520 but the heavily updated and local xeon gen2 i7 T520 server is still perfect for my needs, too bad I have to spend over a thousand for a newer computer , just to get native USB3 support.
