Use a 50/50 mix of water and white or even apple cider vinegar. Mist the area and try it. Repeat this up to 4-6 times and the smell will disappear. Or almost gone. Periodically it will spread throughout the house if you walk across that particular section of carpet, but at least the family room will be livable again. Thanks to the miracle of nature. You have completely ruined one of the best cleaners of all time.
