This is the second DSCP32 I have bought. (lost first, don't ask). By the way, this is the second digital camera I've bought. I hope this shows what I'm trying to convey: I was very happy with my first camera. If I had known that I was going to spend over $400 on (2) digital cameras in 6 months, I would undoubtedly have bought a model with more features. But this model was functional enough to make me shell out another $200 for the same model. big ol' thing that drags you down, this might be the camera for you. The zoom isn't great, but it's usually adequate. I used to have trouble trying to take photos of friends across the street. I used the digital zoom and the images didn't come out very well because I used less than a "large" image size. Inside or fairly "large" zoom works well. The price has come down since I first bought one of these cameras. I suspect this model is about to be phased out (see Consumer Reports Nov 2003, p15, "Shop Smart" - "Cameras typically stay on the market for about a year. If you see the price of a particular model Drip is usually a sign that the camera is about to be discontinued.") Today, October 4, 2003, I paid $199 (at my local Best Buy) but about 5 months ago I had $239 for the lost one paid. Retirement shouldn't scare you; Sony will be there and business needs to be done. If you are looking for a camera with lots of features, there are better cameras than this one. If you're looking for a great, simple, and well-designed camera, then at least consider the DSCP32. The price is definitely around $199. It comes with rechargeable AA batteries, a charger, a USB cable and a cable that you can connect to your TV to view a 'slide show' of the photos you have taken. My only complaint is that it *doesn't* come with a DC adapter so you have to rely on those rechargeable batteries all the time. The Sony software isn't great, but it does come with the camera. If you have some of the best photo editing software out there, you should be fine, and Sony's software will do the trick. This might be the worst part of the package with this great little camera. If you want to buy this model, my advice is: DON'T LOSE IT!
