I'm going to an online college and I'm using a laptop with an external keyboard and mouse. I had a laptop on several books until I decided to buy this laptop stand. It fits perfectly on my desktop. It's a good height, sturdy and easy to assemble. It's made of solid aluminum and flexes a bit when I open/close my HP 14" laptop (which isn't very thin or light), so maybe not the best option for a heavy 17" computer, but more as strong enough for most . I love that I can mount the keyboard under my laptop when I'm working on a book. It would also be nice if I decided to use an external monitor. My only complaint is the workmanship. It doesn't matter since I don't touch it very often and it's mostly hidden, but the surface and edges are rougher than I expected. It's not sharp and it doesn't really bother me, especially for the price, but don't expect it to have such a smooth, perfect finish as, for example, an Apple product. In general, I recommend if it's a little "rough". at the edges" (literally) will not bother you.
